It’s that time of year again where holiday makeup tutorials are taking over the internet. Once December arrives, it’s all about celebrating and looking great while doing it. Makeup artists everywhere are trusted by party goers to create the perfect holiday makeup look. As an aspiring makeup artist, you should be excited! It’s a time to go big and bold with your client’s makeup looks!

If that’s a little too over the top for your personal style, here are 3 ways to add a little festive spin to your makeup for the holiday season!
1. Add a little festive sparkle!
As the beauty icon Marilyn Monroe once said, “Everyone’s a star and deserves the right to twinkle.” As an aspiring makeup artist, you can help clients twinkle and sparkle all night long by adding a metallic accent to their makeup.
Try using a metallic gold or silver eyeshadow! When applied to the lid of the eye, it’ll become the focal point of your client’s face. To make it really pop, you can pair a metallic lid with liquid eyeliner and a cat eye. Make sure the look lasts until the clock strikes midnight by prepping with eyeshadow primer. Not only will this provide a long-lasting effect, but it will also make the eyeshadow much more vibrant.
2. A smokey eye is always a holiday classic!
There’s a reason this look is such a classic. The smoky eye is appropriate all year long, but during the holidays it is especially fitting! Smoky eyes are perfect for creating a sultry and sophisticated look. By December, most summer tans have long faded, so it’s important to keep the right colours in mind for your client so that you don’t accidentally wash them out.
As you’ll learn during your makeup artist training, browns and golds are great for warming up a client’s skin tone. They are also perfect for the holidays. Pair a smoky eye with lightly blushed rosy cheeks, a strong highlight, and a light pink shimmery lipstick for a wintery look your clients will love.
3. Finish with a bold lip to complete your client’s look!
For adventurous makeup artist’s in the making, a deep coloured pout is a great option. Dark and bold lipsticks take centre stage as cold weather approaches, making this the perfect addition to any holiday look. Red, cranberry, and wine coloured lipstick make the perfect finishing touch!
Make sure you start by applying moisturizer to your client’s lips before using a dark or a matte lipstick. After the lips are soft and supple, apply a lip primer. The primer forms a base and helps the colour pop. Carefully line the lips to create the ideal shape, and then fill in the lips with the lip liner. Finally, carefully apply the lipstick on top. This look is a classic way to add some festive colour to any makeup!
